In the context of the research project “Mudejarismo and Moorish revival in Europe. Transcultural exchanges between Muslims, Christians and Jews in the architecture of the Middle Age and Modern Times”,funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) from 2014 to 2019, an interdisciplinary research team from the Institute of History of Art and Islamic Sciences of the University of Zurich conducted by Prof. Dr. Francine Giese will investigate medieval interactions on the Iberian Peninsula focusing on the so-called Mudéjar Architecture as well as on modern reception mechanisms within the actual international Orientalism debate. History of Islamic Art in Switzerland
With the SNSF professorship conducted by Prof. Dr Francine Giese and established at the Department of Art History of the University Zurich (KHIST) from 2014 to 2019, Switzerland provides again an assistant professorship for the Islamic Art History. Varied teaching sessions as well as a diversified excursion program enable the examination of the subject of study on a scholarly level.
